Safety Committee Meeting

Minutes

Meeting called to order by Chairman S. Sherwood at 1335; Safety Committee Members present were R. Demko, R. Smith, C. Tracy; Also present were X, Y.

Agendas were distributed.

Chairman Sherwood noted previous minutes posted online, and reiterated the need for a Committee Secretary; Z offered to take minutes for current meeting.

Safety Concern Subcommittee:

• Chair Homa described one new Safety Concern issue re Station 5's spare engine shoreline; building & grounds notice has been filed and email was sent to DC Reid
• Prior concern regarding equipment mounting on apparatus was discussed, with a temporary fix of netting separating passenger and equipment areas on Rescue 1 suggested; further discussion ensued regarding loose equipment and personal items, with the resolution that the Mechanics have equipment mounting on their priority list and members must secure their own belongings to ensure the safety of all.

Old Business:

• Near Miss Reporting from www.firefighternearmiss.com was discussed; Local Secretary Smith will ask Donna Quirk to arrange for it to go to ALL.OFFS.
• Pre-Emergency Planning Training was discussed.
• Critical Incident Stress program was discussed; CIST responder Chuck Epstein will be invited to speak to Committee later in the winter.
• Hand Sanitizers for stations were discussed.
• Meeting with DC Reid & Chairman Sherwood will be scheduled to move issues forward - hearing protection, safety officer, etc.

New Business:

• Physical Fitness Program Review discussed.
• Respiratory Protection discussed.
