Hurricane Sandy Hits Fairfield
Posted On: Nov 13, 2012

Members of the Fairfield Fire Fighters Association saw first hand the wraththat Hurrican sandy had to offer. With winds gusting in the low 70MPH range crews were put to the test often responding from call to call all the while dodging falling trees and wires.

"It was like a war zone out there" said Local Secretary Bill Tuttle. "It was like nothing I've seen here before."

As the night turned to daytime it was only then that the true devastation that sandy has caused could be realized. Houses torn from their foundations were gone. Many more homes had colapsed or sustained major damage. In the hours that followed our members searched over 1500 homes to make sure that no one was left behind and to render any assistance that they could.

"Our members worked 84-96 hours straight before they even got a chance to check on their own homes. We had 3 members whose homes sustained major damage while they were at work. They stayed on the job protecting the citizens of Fairfield until they were relieved from duty." stated Local President Bob Smith" It takes a special kind of person to do that and we have some of the best."

While it may be months for the clean up to be complete our members will remain on the front line keeping Fairfield safe!!
