Relay for Life 2009
Updated On: Jul 05, 2009

Fairfield’s Bravest were back on hand for the American Cancer Society’s 2009 Relay for Life at the Ludlowe campus. This year’s event took place the weekend of June 6th and 7th. This was the fourth year that Local 1426 has been a part of the event and in true for we did not disappoint the crowd.  Engine 1426, our handmade small scale fire Engine, was back providing weary walkers with a chance to “Take a nap for a Lap”, for a donation to the cause. The dunk tank was back for the third year with Bill “the instigator” Tuttle firing up the crowd to a fever pitch with his antics. 3am Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches were back and as popular as ever. Over 300 were sold in a little over an hour breaking our previous record set last year. All those that provided us pictures for the Relay project were happy to see our addition to the Banner Lap this year, a custom made Local 1426 banner with the faces of all our family connections to cancer.  One of two new additions to the fire camp this year was Micallizzi’s Real Italian ice which also turned out to be a fantastic seller. We could not scoop it fast enough to keep up with the crowd. The second addition was an exciting Laser light show provided to us courtesy of Connecticut Laser.  It was spectacular. Thank you to the many 1426 members and their families who stop by to be part of our team. With your help we were able to raise over $8000 dollars. To date this year’s Relay has raised over $280,000 dollars.
